STEAM Cafe: Jeannette Illsley

  • LWGMS 810 18th Avenue Seattle, WA, 98122 United States (map)

The STEAM Department hosts STEAM Cafés once a month – a time for students to meet with female leaders in STEM fields and learn about their research or work. STEAM Cafés are a wonderful opportunity to open our students' minds to new careers and introduce students to STEM role models. Also, STEAM Cafés are a great way to invite community members into our building without impacting class schedules or curriculum.

On this special edition STEAM Café, we welcome Jeannette Illsley, Mission Ops and Flight Test Engineer for Boeing and NASA, currently with the Museum of Flight with a focus on outreach and education – an engineer who worked on the Cassini mission!

The projects of Ms. Illsley’s 15+ year career in aerospace engineering range from flying Space Shuttle Payloads to testing F-22 structures to operating the Cassini and Dawn Spacecraft and testing Curiosity rover systems. She is currently volunteering as a docent at the Museum of Flight and coordinating events for the Museum's Future Leaders Team. Ms. Nisha met her at one of these events last year, and invited her to L-Dub to speak to all of our girls.

Ms. Illsley will speak to our students about aerospace and aviation and the #Cassini probe's construction and groundbreaking 13-year exploration of Saturn, and teach them about gravity assist.
