History

Lake Washington Girls Middle School was founded in 1995, when a group of parents brought their vision to form a middle school for early adolescent girls to life. Committed to providing a positive and challenging learning environment that fosters self-esteem, respect, and responsibility, L-DubĀ opened its doors in 1998 as the first secular girls middle school in Seattle!

L-Dub originally served a small community of 10 students. However, the need for an all-girls education in the community was clear, and the school continued to grow, and there are now over 125 students enrolled.

In 2019, L-Dub moved into a brand new building in North Beacon Hill with spaces specifically designed to enhance programming and promote better learning for this generation of L-Dub girls and the next, with:

  • A science lab, art classroom, and STEAM studio
  • A performance space with a stage and tech booth
  • A school commons that serves as a lunchroom and hub of the building
  • A big, outdoor space for community gatherings, running around and playing, and outdoor classroom time
  • A full gymnasium for PE, sports practices, and games
  • A rooftop turf playing field
  • A community library

Our new, modern spaces foster greater collaboration among teachers and students and allow us to provide more hands-on and experiential learning experiences to our students.
