Did you know that crocheted items cannot be made by a machine and can only be made by hand? Come learn this popular type of crafting and complete a variety of projects in this low-key and leisurely camp. This camp is appropriate for students who have never crocheted before, or those who have some experience and still need support with their stitches. While cozying up with music, beginner crocheters will learn foundational stitches, practice crocheting in rows and in the round, and use their new skills to make household items such as dish cloths, coasters, and coozies. Later in the week, we will explore making small three-dimensional objects and conclude the week with creating a stuffed octopus (also known as amigurumi)! If time permits, we may also explore other crafts such as finger knitting and making friendship bracelets. This is a great camp for those who love cozy crafting and don’t mind spending the week relaxing indoors making yarn art. Participants will leave with their own crochet hooks, all of their creations, and several patterns that they can reuse at home.

*If you’re not sure if you should sign up for this camp or Advanced Yarn Crafts, message Ms. E at [email protected]!

Our kayak expedition gives beginning kayakers, as well as experienced paddlers, exposure to new environments and outdoor leadership skills. With the help of professional guides from Outdoor Odysseys, our students explore the iconic Salish Sea as we launch from beautiful San Juan Island and enjoy remote campsites on places like Jones Island and Turn Island. The outdoor program at LWGMS uses the principles of “leave no trace” in teaching students the skills for enjoying the backcountry. We cover areas of outdoor education including basic first aid, water safety, camp cooking, and sleeping in tents! All skill levels are accommodated in this fun week filled with laughter and some kayaking too!

Welcome back crocheters! This is the right camp for you if you:

  • feel comfortable with single crochet, half double, and double crochet stitches
  • can crochet basic items (dish cloths, scarfs, etc) independently

The ability to read patterns and crochet in the round is helpful, but not required.

During this camp, we will learn new skills together, work on both individual and collaborative projects, and even take a field trip to a craft store!

While cozying up with music, new crocheters will learn foundational stitches, practice crocheting in rows and in the round, and use their new skills to make household items such as dish cloths, coasters, and coozies. Previous participants and experienced crocheters will have the opportunity to practice their skills and try their hand at more advanced projects, while also acting as mentors to less experienced participants. Later in the week, we will explore making small items for the Random Acts of Kindness Crochet project and conclude the week with creating a stuffed creature (also known as amigurumi)! If time permits, we may also explore other crafts such as finger knitting and making friendship bracelets. This is a great camp for those who love crafting and don’t mind spending the week relaxing indoors making yarn art. Participants will leave with their own crochet hooks, all of their creations, and several patterns that they can reuse at home.
